This form of marketing is completely different from conventional marketing in the sense that it provides near-instantaneous real-time feedback on marketing campaigns.
Digital marketing helps marketers understand what does and does not work so that they can change their strategy accordingly. 
A major advantage of digital marketing is that companies don’t have to rely on volumes of quantitative data laboriously collected through questionnaires. Such marketing research is dependent on customer feedback that is analysed by research companies who report their findings to their clients—a tedious process at best. However, the digital revolution has done away with such practices once and for all.

It’s just that people are now moving on from TV channels to live streaming services where they won’t have to sit through five minutes of advertisements for every 20 minutes of their favourite show. Similarly, podcasts are to radio what online streaming services are to TV.

Going Online Is the Only Way Forward 
If you want to reach out to your target audience, you will have to find them online. Merely having a website is not enough. You have to give them the kind of content they want to consume so that they keep coming back again and again. Similarly, you have to maintain a social media presence and create pages and groups where your target audience will be able to interact with you. 
Here lies the true beauty of digital marketing. You will be able to interact with your customers and answer questions and queries in front of a live audience. If there is anything wrong with the product or service, you can take steps to rectify the problem and relaunch it once again.  
However, you have to be very careful since digital media can be a two-way street. If there are multiple negative comments and reviews, it is absolutely imperative that you figure out just what is wrong and act accordingly. Removing negative comments and reviews won't work since they can be shared and reshared very easily.
